Baylor at Texas

I took Baylor and the points today. Baylor has hung with some pretty good teams this year (TCU, Wash. St.) and Texas is coming off a big game against Oklahoma. Could be a letdown game for Texas. I'm thinking Baylor keeps it within 4 tds.

The play:
Baylor (+27.5) @ Texas ($20)

Mizzou vs Texas A&M

I like Missouri a lot today against Texas A&M. Missouri comes in undefeated and ranked #19. The Aggies don't beat Top 25 teams very often, and they haven't beaten a Top 25 team at home since 2002. Until they prove to me that they can beat a good opponent, I will favor any quality team that plays A&M.

The play:
Missouri -2 @ Texas A&M ($40)

Weekend Recap - Sunday was GOOD to me

After a few rocky days I was able to turn things around on Sunday. The Eagles game turned out just about exactly like I called it in my previous post. The attacking Eagle defense overwhelmed Bledsoe and the Cowboys. My "long shot" 8 game teaser hit as well. Its nice when you can put down 10 bucks and get back $160. I've had pretty good luck this year with teasers and parlays, I know some hardcore wagerers will tell you that these are not good value bets vs straight wagers, but they are working for me. As for Saturday's college football, ehh I won one and lost one, netting about 2 bucks since I put more down on the Nebraska game than the LSU-Florida game.

So here's the rundown:

College Football straight wagers
LSU (pk) @ Florida ($20)
Nebraska -7 @ Iowa St. ($25 bet paid $47.73)

NFL straight wager
Philadelphia -1.5 ($20 bet paid 37.39)

NFL 8 game teaser
Chi-3.5
Car -1.5
N.O. -1
Phi +4.5
Jax -1
Minn -0.5
SF +2.5
NY Giants +0.5 ($10 bet paid $160)

So for the weekend I was +2.73 on College with a 1-1 record and + 167.39 on the NFL with a 1-0 record and the teaser. Good weekend.

NFL play(s) 10-8

I only have one straight bet today. I like the Eagles and their aggressive defense to beat the Cowboys in the T.O. Bowl. Drew Bledsoe is probably the least mobile QB in the NFL. That's bad when you are playing the Eagles who sub in and out their D-line constantly and love to come after the quarterback. All the focus will be on the T.O. return, but I think the bigger story will be the Eagles D. Philly is also getting Lito Sheppard back today to help out in the secondary.

I'm taking Philadelphia -1.5 ($20).

I also have a 8 game 6 point teaser. I seem to have fallen in love with these teaser bets lately which is probably a bad thing, but this is a $10 bet to win $150. For the most part, I try to pick games that have lines close to 7 (making the game essentially a pick 'em) and take the favorite or lines over 10 and take the dog. Pretty basic. This week its all favorites.

Here's the teaser card:
Chi-3.5
Car -1.5
N.O. -1
Phi +4.5
Jax -1
Minn -0.5
SF +2.5
NY Giants +0.5

My luck has been running kinda bad lately so I'm hoping for good things today in the NFL.

2 plays today

I'm gonna try to get back to even (or at least close to even) for the weekend on college football.

My plays:

LSU (pk) @ Florida ($20)
Nebraska -7 @ Iowa St. ($25)

I think LSU's D will expose Chris Leak as a bad qb for Meyer's offense. The backup Tebow is better than Leak in my opinion. I feel very good about the Nebraska pick. Iowa St. has the worst defense in the Big 12 statistically. They give up close to 400 yds per game. Today Iowa St. will be starting a freshman at cb in an attempt to improve their pass defense. This smells like desperation to me.

Damn

Louisville had a very slow start against Mid Tenn St. They scored late in the first half to make it 23-10 and ended up winning 44-17. Unfortunately for me the 27 point win was not enough to cover the 30 points I laid. $25 down the drain.

I'm down $55 now just from the Thurs/Fri games. I woke up late today and missed the chance to bet the early Saturday games. Now I'm feeling a little gun shy to put any more money down on the later games. That may change. If so, I'll post some plays later.

For now, while I don't have any money on the games, I like Nebraska and LSU to cover.

Louisville Friday Night College Football

As I mentioned I like Louisville a lot in tonight's game at Mid. Tenn. St. I put $25 on the Cardinals at -30. These guys can score with anybody in the country. As for Mid Tenn. St. this is from a yahoo sports story about the game tonight:

"The Blue Raiders have either been very good or very bad so far this season. Their two losses -- to Maryland and No. 16 Oklahoma -- have come by an average of 36.5 points. Their three wins -- over Florida International, Tennessee Tech and North Texas -- have come by an average of 27.6 points. "

Looking at how Mid Tenn St. has performed against quality teams, I like my chances giving 30 points with Louisville.

Just to recap my misery

Both games of my 2 game teaser missed last night. That's rough.

I had $30 on a 2 game 6 point teaser with:
FSU -4 @ NC St.
TCU +8.5 @ Utah

So for the night I was -$30. This brings my yearly total in College Football to +168. I will probably add an updated list of my records/cash levels to the sidebar later today. I've been a little unorganized so far in updating things in my posts.

For tonight, I like Lousiville a lot. Their offense doesn't slow down whether they are up by 10 in the first quarter or 30 in the 4th. The last number I saw was -33. I'll take that if I can get it.

The Twinkies

I took the Twins and the money line (+133) tomorrow for $30. Brad Radke is starting against Dan Haren for the A's. I just don't see the Twins getting swept in this series. The A's are due for their usual playoff meltdown after winning the first two games at Minnesotta.

EDIT 10-7-06: Well, well, the A's came through with the sweep. This weekend is not going well.

F U FSU

I've been betting against them and their anemic offense all year. I thought Granny Bowden's squad had enough to get at least a 4 pt win vs NC St. but of course they didn't. My teaser for the night is out the window along with my 30 bucks.....

2 game teaser tonight - CFB

I might be throwing money around a little more wildly these days but what the hell. Who knows how long we have under the current system. I'll take my chances.

So I put down $30 on a 6 point 2 game teaser for tonight's game, I've got:

FSU -4 at NC St.
TCU +8.5 at Utah

I feel good about the FSU game, their D is strong and the offense is at least good enough to get the win. I took TCU based on a recommendation from a friend who generally calls the games pretty well. Utah is a solid team but hopefully 8.5 will be enough for the Horned Frogs to stay within range.

Great article on the Gambling Ban

If you're interested in the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, (if you're reading this blog I assume you are) check out this article. Here is a portion of the article:

"Prohibition is not the answer -- regulation isIn Monday's HG Daily (for Hidden Gems subscribers only) regarding the effect of the legislation on Cryptologic, my colleague Jim Gillies noted a lecture on Al Capone and his role during Prohibition from a recent trip to Alcatraz:
"Prohibition's effect on alcohol prices was said to be on the order of a 275-fold increase within a year, and almost zero decrease in consumption of the now-illegal product. Does anyone believe that Americans en masse will stop gambling online, especially since there won't be any penalties for players? (Yeah, me neither.)"
Americans will continue to play online poker, albeit at a reduced rate (Americans still have brick-and-mortar card rooms to turn to). But that's not what the U.S. government should be concerned about; in my opinion, the real issue is that U.S. citizens account for the bulk of the $13 billion worldwide online gaming industry, yet the U.S. government receives zero tax dollars. And it's not because the online casino operators are nefarious thieves -- for the most part, the publicly traded online gaming companies are reputable businesses regulated by the respectable stock exchanges in the U.K. The reality is that the U.S. online gaming market is so profitable that these gaming companies would gladly share their profits and pay taxes in the U.S. By one estimate, the U.S. government is losing $3.3 billion in online gaming-related tax dollars to foreign governments.
And if Americans are going to play poker online anyway, doesn't it make more sense to legalize online gambling and regulate it, rather than make a futile attempt to ban it?
Direct parallelsThere are direct parallels to this in the domestic casino market. In Council Bluffs, Iowa, for example -- which is located directly across the river from Omaha -- Nebraskans deposit the bulk of the nearly half a billion dollars in annual gaming revenues generated by the three casinos owned by Harrah's Entertainment
(NYSE: HET) and Ameristar Casinos (Nasdaq: ASCA). While Nebraska is loath to legalize full-blown casinos, Nebraskans are going to gamble anyway, and it's inevitable that one day, the state will decide that its residents might as well deposit gaming tax dollars in Nebraska, rather than Iowa.
Similarly, rather than watch its residents spend all of their gambling budgets in New Jersey, Pennsylvania
legalized as many as 61,000 slots at 14 locations in the state, which the state expects to generate $3 billion in gaming revenue, more than half of which will be paid back in taxes. Ohio faces a similar predicament, as Penn National's (Nasdaq: PENN) Argosy Lawrenceburg -- located in Indiana, roughly 25 miles across the state line from Cincinnati -- is the industry's most successful riverboat casino, partly because of the absence of real competition. The pending introduction of slots in neighboring Pennsylvania will likely speed up gambling legislation in Ohio, in an effort to keep gambling tax dollars within the state.
It may be a little sad that these states are somewhat forced, in a way, to legalize gambling, but it makes sense. What can you really do when the propensity to gamble is as human as the propensity to imbibe alcohol?
In my opinion, the regulation of online gaming seems to makes a heck of a lot more sense than an attempted ban. It's just not clear to me who this bit of legislation truly benefits, except perhaps a number of politicians up for election in November."

Online Wagering just hit a serious speed bump

So Congress passed the online gambling ban on Friday night. It was a sad night for this degenerate. I have since pulled most of my money out of the various sites I used to wager and play poker. In the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave, we as citizens are not "free" to choose whether or not to wager online . Bullshit!

Anyway tonight I put the last $55 in my sports wagering account on a prop bet for the Tigers-Yankees game. I bet that the game will be scoreless after the 1st inning. The bet will pay $40 if it hits. If it hits I will try to double again tomorrow.

Hopefully there will be a way around the US gambling ban. At the very least though, the reputable sites that are traded on the London Exchange and thus REGULATED (did you hear that Bill Frist?) will no longer take US bettors. Sites that aren't publicly traded will probably be more creative in dealing with US bettors.

We'll just have to wait and see I guess, but for now the party is looking like its over........

San Diego St at San Jose St

Ok got another one. I took San Jose St +1 hosting San Diego St. San Jose St. has played well against tough competition this year. I am suprised they are not favored by a couple points in this game.

Ohio St first half

I took Ohio St. -3.5 for the 1st half against Iowa. OSU has been the best team in the country thus far. Iowa has looked shaky at times.

Teaser Card 9-30

I don't see a lot of games that stand out to me this week as great plays. So I decided to bet a teaser. Here's the card:

5 game 6 Point Teaser
$20 to win $90

California -3
Michigan -4
Northwestern +26
OhioSt -1
SanJoseSt +7

I have been playing so much poker lately that I haven't had time to write much on this blog. I will definitely be posting a lot more in the next couple weeks.

I love this kid!

Belated NFL Weekend Recap

I had a shot at winning a little over 2.5 units on my 2 NFL parlays. Instead of letting it ride I decided to hedge my bet. Thank God for that. In order to win the 2.5 units I needed Atlanta to win by 4 or more on Monday night. In order to make sure I won some money regardless of the outcome I took New Orleans +4 for $110. Needless to say, New Orleans totally dominated the Falcons on Monday night and won by 3 scores. So I missed out on the parlays but won my straight wager on New Orleans. I ended up coming out ahead $90 on the game as I lost $25 on the parlays and won $115.50 on the New Orleans play. Gotta play it conservative.

My NFL teaser bet hit as well. While I described it as a "flat-out lock" in my earlier post, the Ravens game turned out to be A LOT closer than I anticipated. I had the Ravens -1 (with the 6.5 teaser points) and it took a late comeback by Baltimore just for that game to push. The other two games were easy covers. The Bengals won outright and the Jags covered the 12.5 points I was getting. That bet ended up paying $45.45 as a 2 game teaser with the push.

My straight wager on the Ravens (-4) missed. Charlie Frye played much better than I thought he would against the Ravens D.

So for the NFL weekend I ended up +$110.60. Nice!

In college football , my Notre Dame (-3) play pushed . This was an amazing game to watch. I thought ND was done about 15 minutes into the game. Somehow the Irish outscored Michigan 19-0 in the 4th quarter after trailing by as much as 17 points earlier in the game. The result...push, I'll take it. As for my other plays, BYU covered easily vs Utah St. but Rice failed to hold down the score in their game against FSU and failed to cover the 31 points. I will still bet against FSU if they are giving 3 tds or more. That offense needs a lot of help. On Friday night Nevada covered for me against Northwestern. Despite losing, Northwestern looked a lot better in this game and I wouldnt be suprised if they upset somebody in the Big Ten later this year.

For the weekend in College football I ended up +$47.98.

Sunday, September 24, 2006

One more quick one

I also just took the Ravens -4 for the 1st half $25 to win $20.83.

Charlie Frye is gonna be running for his life and the Browns run D should get dominated by Jamal Lewis.

NFL plays 9-24

Once again this week I'm playing some parlays in the NFL. I also played a 6 point teaser which I think is a flat-out lock.

Here are my plays so far:

1) 6 Point Teaser (3 Teams) $50 to win $90

Bengals +8
Jaguars +12.5
Ravens-1

2) Parlay (3 Teams) $10 to win $51.62

Bengals +1.5
Eagles-6
Falcons -3.5

3) Parlay (6 Teams) $15 to win $542.31

Bears -3
Eagles -6
Falcons -3
Seahawks -3.5
Jaguars +7
Titans +10.5

College Football Plays 9-23

Ok here are my plays so far:

Notre Dame -3 ($25)

BYU -26.5 ($25)

Rice +31 ($25)

I might throw down a few more plays later, but this is all I got for now. Notre Dame's season is on the line at Mich St. I can't believe that ND will make as many mistakes on offense (Brady Quinn I'm talking about you) this week as they did last week against the Wolverines. I hope to make back some of the money I lost on them last week today.

BYU is a very good offensive team. They have several big solid backs and should roll Utah St. this week. Utah St. got blown out last week against Utah and should repeat that performance.

I just can't stay away from a game where Florida St. is getting 31 points. This offense hasn't proven it can even score 31 points in a single game. Rice is not a great team by any stretch of the imagination but they hung with UCLA and only lost by ten points. UCLA's offense makes Florida St.'s look like a j.v. team. Lets go Owls!

Recap Mon and Fri games

So the Steelers went out and laid an egg on Monday against the Jaguars. That team did not look like a defending Super Bowl champion or a contender for this year's title. The offense looked completely out of sync. Ben Roethlesberger apparently has a new favorite reciever. Apparently he prefers throwing the ball to Rashean Mathis this year over Hines Ward cause every time I looked up Mathis was snagging a ball out of the air Monday night. One problem for the Steelers though, Mathis plays for Jacksonville. Maybe Pittsburgh can work out a trade in the offseason and start him at wide reciever. Anyway that was a dissapointing/boring game to watch and it cost me $20. That's just not cool.

So for the year in the NFL I am up $63.63. My win/loss record for the is: (3-1 straght bets, 9-1-1 on parlayed games).

In happier news, Nevada's miracle interception return for a td with 2 minutes left in the game got me a victory on Friday night. I was sweating this one big time, Nevada had the ball with a 3 point lead late in the game and I needed a td for them to cover the 7. They played it very conservatively and punted with a little over 2 minutes remaining. Northwestern took over at their own 20 and on 2nd down.....BAM...their QB throws an out that gets picked by the Nevada corner. He walks into the endzone untouched and Nevada covers! The team is happy, the fans are happy, and most importantly I won $45.45. Thankyou Wolfpack.

In the world of NCAA football this year I am up $55.17. My win/loss record is: (8-5 straight bets, 2-5 on parlayed games).

I need to look closer at the college lines for tomorrow. I will post my plays tomorrow morning.

Friday, September 22, 2006

College Football Tonight

Been a busy week, no time to post anything.

I have Nevada (-7) tonight hosting Northwestern. ($50)

Northwestern is awful. They lost to a Div 1-AA team this year and their 2 wins are both against teams that are currently 0-3.

Monday, September 18, 2006

Monday Night Football

Last minute play.....

I took Pittsburgh -2.5. Pittsburgh looked pretty solid in their opening game and have had extra time to prepare for this one. A win by a field goal or more shouldn't be much of a problem.

NFL Sunday recap

Not a bad day. It could have been huge though.

My plays were as follows:
Straight Wager
New Orleans @ Green Bay Over 40 ($20)
Correct paid 18.18

Parlays
$10 on a 3 game parlay: Cincy -10.5, Oak/Bal Under 34, Ten/S.D. Over 37.5 (pays 6-1)
(2-0-1 ) paid $30

$10 on a 6 game parlay: Cincy -10.5, Atl -5, Det/Chi Over 32, Baltimore -12.5, G.B. +2.5, Hou/Indy Over 47.5
(5-1) paid $0

I missed the GB +2.5 pick in the 6 game parlay otherwise my $10 bet would have paid $465. Green Bay tied the game at 20 at the beginning of the 4th quarter and looked like they were rolling. I was beginning to think I had a shot as I watched the game on CBS Sportsline's gamecast. Then in the span of 30 freakin' seconds New Orleans scores 2 tds. At that point I figured I was done. Well, well, three and a half minutes later Green Bay has driven down and scored. Then the Packers D holds the Saints to 3 and out and Favre leads the Pack down to the New Orleans 30 yd line. Now I'm thinking "Damn maybe Green Bay ties this thing and wins on a FG in OT." 1st and ten....incomplete......2nd and ten..ah wait...nope incomplete...3rd and ten.......incomplete....4th and ten......yes you guessed it, INCOMPLETE. Game over and 4 and a half units out the window. Sucks for me.

So anyway, for the day I was up $38.18.
For the year I'm up $83.63 on the NFL
My win/loss record for the NFL is: (3-0 straght bets, 9-1-1 on parlayed games)

Hmmm, maybe I should be betting more NFL games.

Sunday, September 17, 2006

Damn you Brett Favre!

I just missed winning 4.5 units on a $10 parlay. OUCH. I hit 5 out of 6 games and all I needed was Green Bay to come back and win by a field goal against New Orleans. With 2 and a half mins left, Favre drove them down to the New Orleans 32 with Green Bay down 7. Then 4 consecutive incomplete passes....and my 4.5 units go out the window.

Ahh well at least my $20 straight wager on the Over in this game won. Better than nothin.

Recap for Saturday's College Action

Not a great day for me. Not a terrible one either. I definitely had a better day watching the games than betting on them though.

Here's the rundown of my plays:

Straight Wagers
1) Miami @ Louisville UNDER 52.5 ($20) Correct (paid $18.18)
2) Boise St. (-7.5) @ Wyoming ($20) Incorrect
3) Clemson @ Florida St. UNDER 44.5 ($20) Incorrect
4) Colorado St. @ Nevada (-2.5) ($20) Correct (paid $19.05)
5) Arizona St. (-11.5) @ Colorado ($20) Correct (paid $18.18)
6) Texas (-19) @ Rice 1st Half ($20) Correct (paid $18.18)
7) Iowa St. + 7.5 @ Iowa 2nd Half ($10) Incorrect
8) Nebraska @ USC (-7.5) 2nd Half ($30) Incorrect

Parlay
$5 on a 5 game parlay BoiseSt (-7.5), Ohio St. (-29), Notre Dame (-5.5), Nebraska (+17.5), Utah (-20.5)
Missed the parlay completely only got 2 of the 5 games right (only Utah and Ohio St. covered).

So for the day my record on straight wagers was (4-4). My record on parlayed games was (2-3).

As for the cash, I lost $6.37 on straight wagers and $5 on my parlay for an overall loss of $11.37.

To update my college record/cash for the year:
Straight Wagers (7-5)
Parlayed Games (2-5)
Total Winnings/Losses: +$9.72

NFL Today

I'm not feeling all that confident about today's NFL action so for now I have 1 straight bet and a couple parlays.

Here are my plays:
Straight Wager
New Orleans @ Green Bay Over 40 ($20)

Parlays
$10 on a 3 game parlay: Cincy -10.5, Oak/Bal Under 34, Ten/S.D. Over 37.5 (pays 6-1)
$10 on a 6 game parlay: Cincy -10.5, Atl -5, Det/Chi Over 32, Baltimore -12.5, G.B. +2.5, Hou/Indy Over 47.5

I might bet the Cincinatti game straight up but I'd like to see the line come down to 10. I feel pretty good about the New Orleans/Green Bay Over . Neither of these teams is all that good, but I think each team's offense is a lot better than its defense. That should make for some points today.

Saturday, September 16, 2006

Its been a so-so day thus far

My Boise play missed by a half point. That sucks.

I just put $30 on USC (-7.5) for the 2nd half. They look like they are ready to turn the dogs loose on the Cornhuskers. This game should not be as close as it is at the half. I look for USC to outscore Nebraska by 2 or 3 tds in the 2nd half.

Ohio St. covers

Wow. Tressel sends out the back up field goal kicker to kick a 52 yd field goal with 1 min left in the game. Coincidentally, the line was 29 and the field goal put the Buckeyes up by 30. The Ohio St. boosters will be loving Tressel for that.

Half time play

I cannot stop myself today. There are just too many attractive plays.

After watching the first half of the Iowa-Iowa St. game I put $10 down on Iowa St. for the 2nd half (+7.5).

Alright alright I just can't help myself....

I told you I was a degenerate.

I put $5 on a long shot 5 game parlay (pays 25-1). I've got:
BoiseSt (-7.5)
Ohio St. (-29)
Notre Dame (-5.5)
Nebraska (+17.5)
Utah (-20.5)

Another College Football Play Texas 1st half

Man, I'm finding a lot of games I like this week in college football.

I'm taking Texas (-19) @ Rice for the first half. ($20)

I think the Longhorns will come out angry after losing to Ohio St. last week. They should put up some numbers in the 1st half. Hey Mack Brown, how bout a 21-0 halftime lead?? That would work for me.

One more College game

Somehow I missed this one all week. My buddy just pointed it out to me. I'm taking Arizona St. (-11.5) at Colorado. ASU can score and the Buffaloes are a shadow of their former selves. I'd be very suprised if this game is even close by halftime.

The play: Arizona St. (-11.5) @ Colorado ($20)

Week 3 College Football Plays

Alright here we go. Should be an awesome weekend for college football watching. Let's hope its also a good weekend for a little college football wagering.

My plays this week:

1) Miami @ Louisville UNDER 52.5 ($20)
2) Boise St. (-7.5) @ Wyoming ($20)
3) Clemson @ Florida St. UNDER 44.5 ($20)
4) Colorado St. @ Nevada (-2.5) ($20)

Miami/Louisville: I think Miami has enough speed on defense to slow down Louisville's offense. Louisville has one of the best attacks in the nation but they haven't faced anybody with a real defense yet and the loss of Bush should be more apparent in this game. Miami is not a good offensive team by any stretch of the imagination. Plus, Miami has a starting O-Lineman out with injury (and may be starting a freshman) which should hold down the Hurricane offense.
In short, take the Under.

Boise St./Wyoming: Boise St. dominated the line of scrimmage against Oregon St. at home. Wyoming played a tough 1 pt loss game last week at Virginia and could come out flat this week as a result. Wyoming actually has a pretty good home field advantage since their stadium is at an altitude, but Boise has had a week and a half to prepare and I'm no geography expert, but I think Boise is at least slightly elevated. Take the guys who play on the freaky blue field.

Clemson/FSU: Florida St. almost lost to Troy last week. They are HIGHLY overrated, and do not belong in the top 10. Their running game was atrocious against Miami in Week 1 and failed to improve much against Troy, a team they should have dominated. Clemson (like Wyoming) played a heartbreaker last week as they lost in OT to BC by 1 pt. FSU's defense is still legit and should hold Clemson offense in check. Take the Under in this Bowden Bowl.

Colorado St./Nevada: Nevada looked pretty good to me despite losing their opening game at Fresno St. They followed that up by losing to Arizona St. last week and basically got torched through the air, giving up 5 td passes. Colorado St. is nowhere near as good as either of Nevada's previous opponents and I think Nevada gets its season back on track this weekend. Colorado St. is coming off a win against their instate rival Colorado (the Buffaloes are terrible this year) and the team has had some scandals recently. I think a distracted Colorado St. loses this week at Nevada. Take the Wolfpack to the bank.

Well, my MLB bets basically sucked

Lost both my straight bet and my parlay tonight. I guess that's why I rarely bet baseball. At least Saturday is only 2 days away. Let's hope for a better showing with college football.

Thursday, September 14, 2006

A rare baseball play

I'm feeling good about Kelvim Escobar pitching tonight for the Angels against the Rangers. I put down $25 to win $30, getting the Angels at -1.5. Escobar has been lights out for the past month with an ERA well under 3.00. Also the Rangers are sending out a guy who has given up 16 runs in 21 1/3 innings this year. I don't bet much baseball but this one seemed like a good bet for the night.

I also put down $10 on a 3 game parlay taking the Phillies (+1.5) at the Braves, the Twins (+1.5) at Cleveland, and (once again) the Angels (-1.5) playing the Rangers.

I think my indecision on tonight's West Virginia-Maryland game drove me to making a few baseball wagers this evening. I'm gonna watch the football game, but I could not make up my mind on who to take with Maryland getting 17.5 points.

Wednesday, September 13, 2006

Boise St. at Wyoming

Thinking about taking Boise (-7.5) in this one. They impressed me against Oregon St. in their first game. Wyoming is coming off a close loss at Virginia. Need to do some more research on this one.

Early College Football Play Clemson-FSU

Its still early in the week but I think I am going to jump on the Under (44) in the Clemson-FSU game. I know Clemson just lost another defensive player, but FSU has one of the worst offensives for a Top 10 team I have ever seen. They can't run the ball, and Weatherford does not impress me as a passer. Plus it doesn't seem like they have the speed advantage at wideout this year that they had in years past. On defense, they still have a lot of speed.

Clemson is coming off a heart-breaker loss at BC and could be ready for a let-down. I also think Bobby Bowden will take it easy on his son if FSU is up by a 2-3 tds late.

I'm still thinking about this one, but my gut says take the Under.

Note to Art Shell: Your offensive line SUCKS!

Art Shell's NFL Hall of Fame status may have to be revoked. This guy was an offensive lineman during his NFL career right? How does a team coached by a Hall of Fame offensive lineman give up NINE sacks (and no, that's not a misprint)?? The Raiders looked flat out awful last night. Nothing worked for them on offense and the play of the O-line was atrocious. Shawn Merriman is a great player, but the Raiders made him look like Reggie White last night. Coach Shell better get things in gear or we're gonna have Granny Al Davis on the sidelines with a headset on by week 3.

I'm not a fan of Aaron Brooks, but you can't really blame him for the Raider offense's performance last night. The guy was on his back all night. Looks like the Raiders may be a good Under play all season long.

Also, Jerry Porter needs to be on the field. I know he is in Art Shell's "dog house" but I don't care if the guy got Shell's daughter pregnant or accidentally slept with Shell's wife, the offense needs as much help as it can get.

If you like my site you will definitely like this one

Check out Redneck High. Its a similar blog to this one (although I must admit, it looks a lot cooler than mine, my html skill are still pretty minimal).

The blog is devoted mostly to college football and tracking the bets of a fellow degenerate gambler (I mean that as a compliment by the way) over the course of this season. Brothers in wagering unite!

To Quote Ice Cube (as we all often do), I gotta say it was a good day

Today the NFL season began in earnest. The games started about 9 1/2 hours ago and I can still count the number of times I got up from the couch on two hands. Good day.

While my fantasy team did not fair well today, my wagers did. I had $25 on Philadelphia -5.5 at Houston. I know its the first game of the season, and the Eagles were pretty awful last year, but this one was too easy. The Texans put up a fight for about the first quarter, but soon realized that they were the Texans, and started giving up sacks left and right. The Eagles were subbing a lot on their D-line and the backups racked up two consecutive sacks on one series. Anyway Eagles win 24-10 with an impressive debut from Donte' Stallworth (who is from my hometown of Sacramento, nice job representin' Sac D-Stall!). That bet paid $23.81. Thankyou odds makers.

NOTE: As I'm writing this Plaxico Burress just made a second amazing catch. The first one was about a 40 yd pass where he tipped the ball to himself and caught it as he was falling down. The second one was for a td and Plax once again tipped the ball and made the grab in the endzone. The guy is using his size very well against Indy's smaller corners.

Anyway, my second NFL play today was a last-minute 2 game parlay where I took the Cowboys (pk) and the Bears (-1.5) for the first half of both games. The Giants ended up pushing when Jacksonville suddenly started playing like an NFL team at the end of the 1st half (as opposed to the Pop Warner team they looked like for the first quarter and a half). The Bears covered easily and my $10 bet paid $8 with the win and the push.

So for today's NFL action I'm up $31.81. Yesterday's college football plays netted me $36.09. For the weekend I'm up $67.90. Not bad.

I also won a whopping $1.20 on a $6 Speed tourney last night.

So the updated grand total for my bankroll comes to $258.08.
The breakdown:
Poker +$14.65
College +21.09 (3-1 straight bets, 0-2 on parlayed games)
NFL +45.45 (2-0 straight bets, 2-0 on parlayed games)

Oregon Fresno St. What a game

This one is just ending. Wow. I feel bad for Fresno for losing this one cause they played very well. This game featured a ton of hard hits. Oregon scored the winning touchdown on a fake field goal option play with the holder pitching it to the kicker for the score. That was flat out sick.

Great game.

Recap of my College Plays and a tiny SNG

Good news and bad news. The bad news: my two game parlay was a two game loser as the Texas Ohio St game did not even come close to going over the total of 50.5 and UCLA failed to cover by only beating Rice by a meager 10 points. However, the good news: Louisville covers easy, ND/PSU went over and Syracuse covered nicely.

So for the year thus far I'm 3-1 on straight bets in college football and 0-1 on parlay cards. Not too shabby.

I also finished 2nd in a scrapin'-the-bottom-of-the-barrel $1.25 5 table SNG on Full tilt. I happily collected $11.20 for my efforts.

Late Breaking Injury Report

Iowa QB Drew Tate is OUT for the Hawkeye's game at Syracuse today. I'm not crazy about Syracuse, but I took them at +20.5. Backup Qb, on the road....I can definitely see the Orange keeping this within 3 tds.

Movie and a SitnGo

I lost $6 on the SNG (5 table). I don't wanna talk about it, flat out awful play by me last night.

The movie however was pretty good. My girlfriend and I went to see Little Miss Sunshine. Pretty funny movie. I liked Alan Arkin as the whacked-out grandfather a lot. It was interesting to see Steve Carrell playing a serious role. After watching The 40 Year Old Virgin about 50 times this summer I have a hard time seeing Steve Carrell as anything other than Andy, the guy who thinks a breast feels like a "bag of sand." Anyway Carrell pulled the role off very well. The movie centers around a road trip taken by a dysfunctional family in their beat up VW van. Some of the scenes resonated with me as I can remember (mostly fondly) many family vacations where my family and my cousins would pile 13 deep into a giant station wagon (the Matador!) and head to various parts of the US. Ahh my long lost youth.

Friday, September 08, 2006

My plays:

Louisville -40.5 (hey baby got to go with your gut and my gut says Louisville is looking to prove their offense is still unstoppable without Bush)

ND/PSU Over 46.5 (PSU has young corners and I still don't believe in ND's defense)

2 game Parlay: 1)Ohio St./Tex Over 50.5 (need Ted Gin and Sweed to run wild)
2)Ucla -27.5 (F Rice, I been hearing alot of hype about UCLA this year, its put up or shut up time!)

Also NFL play for Sunday Philly -5.5 @ Hou. I have no respect for Houston, can't see them scoring many points in this one.

Poker last night

I played 3 SitnGo's at Partypoker last night trying to make a little scratch. First SNG was a $6 2-table, I hung around waiting out the fish but got clobbered on an AQ all-in. Finished tenth -$6 at that point. 2nd SNG was a $6 1-table, I didn't even bother to hang around here and got bounced out in 8th place. -$12 for the night at that point. People play waaaay tighter in 1 table SNGs than 2 table SNGs, not sure why this is but I've always found this to be true. Maybe better players play the 1 table SNGs than the multi-tables.

Anyway I needed to make up for my weak showing so for my third SNG, I chose a $6 5-table with a bigger prize pool. Finally, I had some success. First as I always do, I waited out the fishies, only playing big hands and high suited connectors. After about an hour we were down to the final table with 7 spots getting paid. I managed to double up through the overagressive chip leader, but ran into some trouble and ended up finishing 5th for a payout of $22.50.

For the night that put me at +$4.50. Better than nothin.

My poker total since I started this blog goes to +8.50 and the roll increases to $184.98.

Hoping to make a move this weekend on some college and pro football....stay tuned.

One good play one not so good play

So my NFL pick of the over on the Steelers-Dolphins game was a good one. My selection of Oregon State (+7.5) flat out sucked. Oregon St.'s defense looked absolutely horrible in this game. Any team with a decent ground game should beat them. Their Qb Moore was almost as bad as the defense tonight. Needless to say its gonna be a long season in Corvales this year.

Boise St., on the other hand, impressed me. Looking at their schedule they have a legitimate shot at going undefeated. The only real tests they have are a home game against Fresno St. and a road game at Nevada. If they win those two, I think they run the table.

As for my bankroll, I lost $15 on the Oregon St. pick and won $13.64 (on my $15 bet) on the Steeler-Dolphin game. That lowers my bankroll from 181.84 to $180.48. So far for the day I am down $1.36. I will be making that up on the poker tables later tonight.

I plan on keeping track of my records against the spread and the dollars won/lost. Here's the first installment:
NFL record (1-0) +$13.64
NCAAF record (0-1) -$15.00
Poker +$4.00

Oregon St. at Boise St. Last Minute Play

The game starts in about ten minutes and I couldn't resist. I just put $15 on Oregon St. (+7.5). Even though Boise has the freaky blue turf, I can't pass up getting more than a touchdown in this game. Oregon St. is much more talented than Boise St. and I would not be suprised to see them win this thing outright.

EDIT: 9:31pm - At halftime it is clear that I greatly underestimated Boise St. and overestimated the Beavers. I thought Oregon St.'s team speed would win this game but I didn't realize that their secondary cannot tackle its way out of a paper bag. Boise looks like the better team here. Hopefully, the Beavers can keep it close and cover, but its not looking good.

Another Online Sporstbook CEO gets busted

I don't like this trend. Peter Dicks, the chairman of Sportingbet, a London-exchange traded online betting portal (one which the author happens to like) was arrested today.

We'll have to wait and see how this all shakes out but it appears the federal govt here in the good old USA is taking aim at online gaming. I am biased, but I don't understand why the feds don't pass laws to REGULATE online gaming rather than completely ban it. If online gaming is regulated, then the IRS can take a piece of the action and we in the US can continue to enjoy ourselves. Seems like an easy solution to me.

Pittsburgh Miami Play for tonight

I put $15 on the over (line was 34). Pittsburgh is dinged up with Rothlesberger out but Hines Ward is supposed to play. The Dolphins should be much improved on offense this year and Ronnie Brown should have a breakout season. Both the starting qbs tonight are good for a couple turnovers, so I wouldn't suprised to see a defensive score in this game. Even if it doesn't go over by much, I see this thing getting over the 34 safely.

Shout Out to My Main Man- Anibal the Cannibal

That's Anibal Sanchez the Florida Marlins' rookie starting pitcher who threw a no-hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight. With the win, the Marlins moved to 2.5 games out of the NL wildcard lead (currently held by the EVIL San Diego Padres). More importantly, I moved ever closer to winning a grand on a $10 bet. See my earlier post for the exciting details.

GO MARLINS!!!!!!

Whoopdee-freakin-doo

I just won a whopping $4 on Partypoker. I played a 2 table $6 SitnGo. After about an hour an ten minutes we were down to the money 4 players left and 4 spots getting paid.

I had several chances to knock players with weaker stacks out but the poker gods weren't with me. AKs vs. AJo and the board pairs twice? Splitsville. That sucks! Anyway eventually I was the 2nd lowest stack on the table and decided to try to make a move with A9o. Four handed this is not a bad hand. My opponent who had me covered, held Q10o and caught a ten on the flop. The turn and the river were no help and I was sent home 4th out of 20 with $10 in winnings to show for my $6 buy-in. Whoopdee-freakin-doo indeed.

Well, that brings my PartyPoker total to $36.94 and my grand total to $181.84. A profitable day is better than an unprofitable one I guess.

National League Wild Card Play

I just put down $10 on "the field"(ie every team other than the ones that the sportsbook gives odds for) to win the NL Wildcard at 100-1. Fortunately for me, "the field" at this particular book includes the Florida Marlins. That's $10 to win $1000 for a team that is currently only 3 games out of the wildcard lead. I like those odds!
FIRST POST- My Bankrolls

So like some other degenerate bloggers I have decided to track my adventures in gambling online for all the world (or at least the 3 people who accidentally come across this blog) to see.

I will start by listing my meager bankrolls at various online sites. They are as follows:
Partypoker : $32.94 (I know its sad, but check out the next one)
Full Tilt Poker: $2.90 (verrrry sad...but I do have $150 in bonus money waiting to be released, so there is some potential upside at that site)
Sportingbetusa: $142.00

That's a total online bankroll of.....drumroll..............$177.84. Let's hope it grows folks.

I also play at Absolute Poker, Pokerstars, and a few other sites. Plus some live poker every once in awhile. As the title suggests, I am indeed, a degenerate gambler.

Please join me in my adventures!
